On the Banks of the Yellowstone - woodcut

On the Banks of the Yellowstone is here! This woodcut illustrates my poem Two Step, and depicts a moonlit sky, the Yellowstone River and river bank. This is a two plate woodcut, carved from Shina plywood, and printed during my printmaking residency in North Carolina. Paper size is 11" x 10" and printed using archival oil-based inks on gray Pescia paper. Enjoy!

FOLKTALES & LEGENDS An Exhibition Without Borders

FOLKTALES & LEGENDS
An Exhibition Without Borders

I am excited to have my etching "Village Music" included in FOLKTALES & LEGENDS: An Exhibition Without Borders, which opens this spring at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Over the last few years, I have been inspired by my family's connection to former Czechoslovakia. I am Czech & Slovak - of both nations.  Czechoslovakia has not existed since Slovakia became its own nation in 1993. Even though these places have different languages, cultures, and identities, they are forever in my life intertwined.

On a bicycle tour through Eastern Slovakia, I fell in love with the flora, and the wooden architecture.
I was amazed by the loudspeakers, which from times before were made to announce news and events.
During our bike ride, polkas emerged from the speakers.
